3+1+1 Type 2 Education Framework
The joint educational framework is offered for Masters by Coursework programmes under the 3+1+1 scheme.

Advantages of the 3+1+1 Programme Compared with Conventional Master of Science Programmes
- Selection of candidates occur in year 3 during UG study. Successful candidates will enjoy a much less stressful final year focusing on studying and future planning at NUS.
- Compared with conventional Master of Science programme, students in the 3+1+1 programme will be staying in NUS for two full years before getting his/her Masters’ degree. That ensures the students to have enough time for quality training. Students will also be able to better decide and plan his/her future career path.
Detailed Instructions:
- There is one intake (August) per academic year and for full-time candidature only.
- The students, after successfully completing three (3) years studies at their home university may apply to attend their final year of undergraduate studies at NUS-MSE as non-graduating, non-exchange students, and to gain provisional admission into a M.Sc. degree programme at NUS-MSE.
- The students’ academic transcripts from their final year at NUS-MSE will be forwarded to their home university, which will then independently determine, separate from NUS, whether the students have satisfactorily completed the requirements for the B.Sc./B.Eng. degree.
- Upon admission into the NUS M.Sc. programme, the student will be subjected to the rules and regulations governing each programme and will graduate with the NUS M.Sc. degree after meeting the graduation requirements of the particular programme.
- Tuition fees and other miscellaneous student fees will be payable to NUS by the student during his/her final year of undergraduate studies in NUS. Fee amounts are published at https://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/administrative-policies-procedures/non-graduating/non-graduating-fees
- Requirement for the Fourth and Final year of Undergraduate Studies at NUS-MSE:
A minimum of 24 Units may be selected from a list of courses offered by NUS-MSE. Students must enroll in a minimum of 12 Units per semester to fulfil the conditions of their student pass.
Application Procedure
The Partner University will nominate qualified undergraduate students who have applied to attend the joint education framework assessed by a panel from NUS-MSE, through an interview and a review of the students' academic record and English proficiency (minimum 85 for TOEFL or 6.0 for IELTS). Upon completion of the interview and assessment, the panel will determine whether each nominated student may be admitted to the final year of undergraduate studies at NUS-MSE.
