Curriculum Structure

The Master of Science (MSc) Materials for Energy Innovation & Sustainability programme aims to attract students from across the globe, which will give the graduates a good perspective on diversity with both an Asian and international identity. The courses are designed to create graduates with questioning minds, particularly during the tutorials.

This programme will help students tackle the sustainability challenge from a unique materials perspective, fostering innovation and adaptability. The programme leverages unique strengths—such as cutting-edge research, advanced facilities, and experienced faculty members—to provide a comprehensive and specialized education in materials for sustainability. This distinct focus sets the programme apart from other materials science or sustainability programmes.

Candidature

Full-time candidates in our MSc (Materials for Energy Innovation & Sustainability) programme typically complete their requirements in 1year (candidature period: 2 semesters), while part-time candidates usually take 2 years (candidature period: 4 semesters).

The maximum period of candidature is 2 years for full-time study and 4 years for part-time study.

Degree Requirements

The graduation requirements include obtaining a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 (equivalent to an average of Grade of B-) for the best 40 units, inclusive of core courses. Of the 40 units, at least 32 units must be at graduate level within the subject or in a related discipline, the remaining units may be from other levels in the same or other disciplines as approved by the Department.

Continuation and Graduation Requirements

Tuition Fee

The tuition fees are reviewed by the University and adjusted periodically to reflect the approximate cost of providing education to students. MSc coursework programme is launched as a self-funded programme.

For students matriculating in August 2026 (AY2026/2027 Sem 1)

Example of Fee Rebate (60% Rebate):

For illustration purposes, if a Singapore citizen were to receive a fee rebate of 60%, the full programme fees payable and the payment schedule are as shown below.

Fee Rebate:

Singapore Citizens (Alumni and Non-alumni) candidates are eligible 60% rebate of the tuition fee.

Singapore Permanent Residents (Alumni and Non-alumni) and International alumni candidates will enjoy 40% rebate of the tuition fees.

Important Points to Take Note:

1. The fees listed are in Singapore Dollars and inclusive of Good and Service Tax (GST).
2. A non-refundable application fee of S$100 (exclusive of GST) has to be paid for your online application in University’s Graduate Admission System (Application Portal )
3. Acceptance Fee (Part of the whole programme fees) is payable upon acceptance of our offer into our programme. Acceptance fees paid are non-refundable and non-transferable.
4. Fees are payable in instalments over two semesters for full-time students and four semesters for part-time students. Additional tuition fees will be incurred if you exceed the maximum candidature period or surpass the required number of modular credits for graduation.
5. All programme fees must be paid in full prior to graduation; otherwise, the degree scroll and official transcript will be withheld.
6. Programme fees do not cover the costs of recommended textbooks and readings. Expenses related to living, travel, accommodation, and other miscellaneous items are also not included and must be borne by the candidates.
7. All students, whether registered on a full-time or part-time basis, are charged the Miscellaneous Student Fees (MSF) by the University. Programme fees does not include the MSF. These fees are due at the same time as the tuition fees. MSF help meet costs incurred by the University in providing services to the student community. The MSF is mandatory and the fees payable are set out here.
