The 2025 Highly Cited Researchers™ list has once again recognised CDE faculty for their global research impact, naming 22 individuals from five CDE departments among the World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds.
Compiled by data analytics firm Clarivate, the annual list uses quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify researchers who demonstrate significant impact and influence in their chosen field by publishing several highly cited papers during the last decade. The names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top one per cent by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science™ citation index.
According to Clarivate, Highly Cited Researchers contribute disproportionately to extending the frontiers of knowledge and innovations that make the world healthier, richer, more sustainable and more secure.
Commenting on the latest listing, Professor Teo Kie Leong, Dean of CDE said, “The presence of many CDE faculty among the world’s most highly-cited researchers reflects the College’s enduring influence, rigorous scholarship and real-world impact. Their work not only pushes the frontiers of knowledge but also reinforces CDE’s mission as a vibrant research hub where collaboration across disciplines transforms bold ideas into innovations with global reach.”

The CDE faculty members named in the 2025 list represent five departments across the College: Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering and Management, Materials Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
Professor Liu Bin, NUS Deputy President (Research and Technology), said, “We are extremely proud of our brilliant researchers whose work is making a global impact, advancing knowledge in their fields, and driving new frontiers in science and innovation. Their achievements demonstrate the strength of NUS’ research and its role in inspiring positive change globally.”
For the 2025 list, worldwide a total of 6,868 researchers from 61 countries and regions have been named Highly Cited Researchers.
David Pendlebury, Head of Research Analysis at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate, said, “The Highly Cited Researchers list identifies and celebrates exceptional individual researchers at NUS who demonstrate significant and broad influence in their fields. They exemplify excellence in their research as well as integrity in their publication and citation practices. These researchers continue to shape the future of science, technology and academia globally and deliver innovation that drives societal progress.”
