Twenty-five faculty members from CDE have been named in the 2024 Highly Cited Researchers™ list and among the World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds.
Compiled by data analytics firm Clarivate, the annual list uses quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify researchers who demonstrate significant impact and influence in their chosen field by publishing several highly cited papers during the last decade. The names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top one per cent by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science™ citation index.
According to Clarivate, Highly Cited Researchers contribute disproportionately to extending the frontiers of knowledge and innovations that make the world healthier, richer, more sustainable and more secure.
In 2023 21 members of CDE faculty featured on the Highly Cited Researchers list, and in 2022 the list included 18 CDE faculty.
Professor Teo Kie Leong, Dean of CDE said, “It is a great source of pride to see a growing number of CDE faculty recognised as Highly Cited Researchers this year. Their outstanding achievements exemplify CDE’s commitment to impactful research, addressing pressing global challenges and contributing meaningfully to our community. This recognition underscores not only their individual excellence but also CDE’s role in fostering a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment, advancing innovation and creating a global hub for transformative research.”
For the 2024 list, 6,636 researchers from 59 countries and regions have been named Highly Cited Researchers. In the list, 3,560 researchers have been recognised in specific fields and 3,326 researchers for cross-field impact, with 238 researchers being named in two or more fields.
Commenting on the latest list, Professor Liu Bin, NUS Deputy President (Research and Technology), said, “NUS is incredibly proud of our exceptional researchers, whose dedication to excellence and groundbreaking discoveries continue to push the frontiers of knowledge. Their meaningful contributions have had a profound impact in addressing real-world issues and paving the way towards a better future for all.”
David Pendlebury, Head of Research Analysis at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate, said, “The Highly Cited Researchers list identifies and celebrates exceptional individual researchers at NUS whose significant and broad influence in their fields translates to impact in their research community… These researchers’ achievements strengthen the foundation of excellence and innovation that drives societal progress.”
The CDE faculty members named in the 2024 list represent six departments: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering and Management, Materials Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
In total 46 NUS scientists were named on the 2024 Clarivate list. The 25 CDE faculty are as follows (grouped by field):
