A/Prof Tan Swee Ching and his team have successfully developed a new method of optically manipulating metal work function. Work function of a material is typically known to be independent of light intensity based on our present understanding. However, the team has discovered a special case where there is a ‘light-intensity dependent’ change in work function in metal thin films. This work has been published in Science Advances.
