PhD Studentship Positions in Two-Dimensional Spintronics

Post-doctoral pSeveral PhD Studentship positions in the group of Dr Ahmet Avsar at Material Science and Engineering Department of National University of Singaporeare available to experimentally study spin-dependent transport phenomena in novel quantum materials. The award includes a full tuition fee, monthly stipend, conference allowance, IT allowance and one-time airfare and settling-in allowances. Applicants should send a cover letter, CV and degree transcripts to “aavsar@nus.edu.sg”.

Job Description

The available PhD projects focus on the preparation and characterization of next-generation spintronics devices built by stacking promising two-dimensional quantum materials for applications in energy-efficient information technologies. Here, we will be using spin information carriers beyond conventional electrons; we will be investigating superconducting and magnetic insulators for this purpose. The research involves advanced nanofabrication in state-of-the-art research facilities, and magneto-transport measurements utilizing low-temperature cryostats. It also includes data analysis, physical interpretation of the results and writing research articles. For more information about the projects and job description, please contact Dr Avsar.

Job Requirements

The applicant must have or expect a First Class or high 2:1 Honours degree or international equivalent (e.g. > 3.3 out of 4) in materials science, physics, engineering, or closely related disciplines. Enthusiasm for research, ability to think and work independently, good analytical skills and strong verbal and written communication skills are essential requirements. Previous experience in cleanroom processing, fabrication of 2D heterostructures, programming or low-temperature physics is desirable.
