Research Assistant and Laboratory Safety Lead – Maciej Koperski Research Group
To support the logistics and safety requirements of the research group. He/She will serve as the point of contact for the research group on logistics, procurement, maintenance, laboratory house-keeping and management matters as well as to support the PI on safety compliance, and safety documentation for the group.
Key Responsibilities
- Administrative and logistic support to PI
- Venue bookings – Lab meetings.
- Refreshment booking, visitor receiving.
- Coordinate with internal and external for HR, IT & finance related matter and etc.
- Assist in organizing workshop, coordinate with participants for the PI group.
- Assist in organizing retreat, liaise with external party and finance. - Procurement and Inventory management
- Chemical purchase, consumables purchase and equipment purchase. Activities include chemical inventory check, updating of LMMS and updates chemical inventory list.
- Including direct purchase, LMPRS chemical purchase, ITQ and ITT.
- nInvolves purchase from overseas and local. Track usage and inventory of essential consumables such as liquid nitrogen, research gases etc.
- Liaise with procurement and vendors to replenish stock.
- Sourcing - Activities include getting quotes from different suppliers, follow up with suppliers, purchase confirmation, create order form (before passing on to procurement colleague).
- Upon receipt of goods - goods receipt, goods labelling/tagging, payment processing and expenditure excel updates. Special case such as filling in NDA (liaise with legal), advance payment, create vendor request, etc. - Asset Sighting and asset management
- Activities include liaise with Finance, checking the asset, ensure asset tag is in place, asset sighting with Finance.
- Coordinate and track intra-lab equipment booking services. - Project management
- Activities include budget tracking, SAP tracking, expenditure, utilisation, etc. - Point of Contact for safety related matters to staff and students
- Serve as safety lead
- Activities include liaise with safety coordinator, attend safety meetings, safety related training, disseminate safety newsletter, update safety meetings note, provide assistance/guidance on risk assessment writing for new experiment.
- Implement safety requirements in the lab. - Lab Safety Management
- Activities include Risk Assessment write ups and revision, SOP write-ups and revision, Safety Data Sheets revision, track license validity, etc. Assist to keep track of N3 licences renewal dates of group members.
- Monitor the completion and refresher of safety training of the lab group members
- Documentation maintenance for the research group (inspection records, industrial hygiene monitoring records, incident reports, internal audits reports)
- Oversee the maintenance of PPE supplies (gloves, washing of lab coats, etc) and first aid boxes. - Internal lab inspection
- Conduct internal lab inspection to ensure the safety practice is in place.
- Test and coordinate the maintenance of emergency eyewash and shower - Manage new lab members onboarding and members exit
- Activities for welcoming new comers include assist in safety related trainings, coordinate with core facility for vaccination, license application & facility trainings, conduct S&H checklist, familiarization of the lab, etc.
- Activities for assist in members exit include ensure waste disposal, inventory hand over, etc. Special case such as email extension is included - Maintaining equipment, optomechanical elements, assistance in developing new set-ups
- Cleaning optical elements, soldering, creating break-out boxes, simple electronics component, alignment and maintenance of lasers and spectrometers (e.g., changing turrets)
(training can be provided for candidate with long-term commitment)
Requirements:
- Diploma or BSc in the relevant fields of Engineering or Physical Sciences.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Hard working and responsible
- Team player
- Prior working experience in a research laboratory an advantage
