Learn from our Nobel Laureate and our Global Experts
Our faculty includes world-renowned experts like Professor Sir Konstantin “Kostya” Sergeevich Novoselov, a Nobel Prize winner in Physics (2010) for his groundbreaking work on graphene. Professor Novoselov is the first Nobel Laureate to join a Singaporean university. Associate Professor Benjamin Tee’s electronic “skin” simulates the human sensory system, exemplifying the innovative spirit of MSE and bringing hope to patients requiring prosthetic limbs.

Materials Science & Engineering is a good blend between science (physics, chemistry, bio-medical) and engineering
The learning scope of our programme is very broad and provides you a wide spectrum of career opportunities.

It is a practical multi-disciplinary programme
Knowing the demand of T-shaped engineer, we are striving for our best to kick-start your career with a practical multi-disciplinary training. We are incorporating new elements such as innovation, entrepreneurship, data science, artificial intelligence and intellectual properties for materials innovation into our curriculum.
- How does materials science and engineering relate to data science and artificial intelligence? We could simulate the properties of a piece of material with computational modelling and data analytics.
- How does intellectual property (IP) protection relate to a material? When a new formulation of a material is invented, you must consider whether it is suitable to be protected through an IP. This is because the secret formulation has to be disclosed when applying for an IP. On the other hand, an IP is required for licensing, which brings you revenue. You will learn the methodologies to deal with the dilemma above in our curriculum.
