A bumper crowd at CDE Career Fair 2023

Career fairs are terrific platforms for students to explore opportunities in diverse industries and sectors and for companies to connect directly with talented students.

The CDE Office of Student Life and NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates worked hard to curate an exciting platform featuring a wealth of internship and job opportunities for our students. The event, held over 12-13 September 2023, drew over 2,000 enthusiastic students. In the days leading up to the event, students were eager to discuss the number and types of resumes they had prepared, how to confirm interviews, and even what to wear to the event. This was a highly anticipated event for many!

The CDE Career Fair 2023 attracted participation from 80 employers spanning the public, private and start-up sectors, ensuring representative employers from diverse industries catering to CDE students. These included Continental Automotive, Google Data Centers, Medtronic, Procter & Gamble and Ramboll. Interactive tech displays on Level 2, brought by Bosch, Dell Technologies and Venture added to the buzz of the event.

Two companies that were present, Phaos Technology, a NUS start-up, and SNK Corporation, a game development company, represented the diverse and exciting prospects that await students with skills in design and technology.

Phaos Technology emphasised that they were seeking more than just academic excellence in potential candidates. They were on the lookout for motivated individuals who showed a hunger for success and an unyielding commitment to learning. As a startup with a flat reporting structure, it offers an environment where students can explore beyond their defined roles.

SNK Corporation wanted to connect with students with a passion for gaming and a desire to delve into the intricacies of game development. The niche focus allows for a unique and insightful learning experience guided by seasoned industry professionals.

What did our students think of the opportunities presented by all the companies?

Wong Cheng Siong James, a Year Two student from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was keen to lock in summer internships in energy, robotics, and R&D. The event proved fruitful for him, with notable companies like Huawei, ASM, and Infineon aligning with his aspirations. Beyond learning about the various sectors, he recognised the importance of honing his elevator pitch and networking skills, acknowledging their pivotal role in forging seamless connections with potential employers.

Ryan Lim, a Year Three student from the Department of the Built Environment, was focused on securing semester-long internships while navigating specialisation options. Engaging with industry giants like Jones Lang LaSalle, Singapore Land Authority, and Jacobs, he sought insights into the energy and sustainable solutions sector, eyeing future internship opportunities. His key takeaways included understanding prevalent industry trends and identifying qualities employers valued.

Thank you to all the employers who took the time to connect with our students and provide opportunities for their continued development.
