Professor John Wang (Department of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Design and Engineering) has been elected fellow of the Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS).
In its announcement citation, SNAS said that Prof Wang is one of the best-known ceramists, pioneering cutting-edge research and development of advanced materials for energy and environment applications. He is globally recognised for his leading research on nanostructured materials for energy storage and conversion.
Prof Wang is also Principal Scientist II, Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*Star.
Commenting on the announcement, he said: "I'm deeply honoured by this recognition, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all my team members for their contributions, and they deserve a big share of this honour."
"Over the past two decades, Singapore has witnessed a great transformation in science and technology. Both my team and I are grateful to the very generous and constant support provided by the nation and NUS for the past more than 20 years."
Prof Wang is an elected Academician of the Asia Pacific Academy of Materials, Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (UK). He is also a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher for the past two consecutive years (2020 and 2021).
SNAS has the dual remit of promoting the advancement of science and technology in Singapore, as well as representing the scientific opinions of its members.
A total of seven NUS faculty are among the 14 Singapore-based scientists who will be conferred the SNAS Fellowship this year.
