Prof Seeram Ramakrishna presented with IES award

Prof Seeram Ramakrishna (Mechanical Engineering), FREng, Everest Chair, has been awarded the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) Outstanding Volunteer Award 2022.

In its citation, IES said "Prof Seeram Ramakrishna is recognised for his outstanding contributions to the Charles Rudd Distinguished Public Lectures Organising Committee".

Commenting, Prof Seeram, who is also Director of the Centre for Nanotechnology and Sustainability and Chair of the Circular Economy Taskforce at NUS said: "I am deeply honoured by this appreciation. Most importantly I would like to thank all committee members who worked passionately for the success of prestigious events amidst challenges posed by COVID19".

He added: "I am grateful to NUS which has encouraged me to associate with the IES in various roles which include IES Council Member, Chair of National Council of Engineering Organizations, Chair of Smart Manufacturing Committee, Chair of Climate Change Technical Committee, Moderator of Charles Rudd Distinguished Lectures, and Advisor to the IES Green Plan 2030."

The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) was formally established on July 1966 as the national society of engineers in Singapore. IES is often called upon by the Government to provide feedback on professional engineering matters and organises courses, seminars and talks for the life-long learning and continuous development of engineers. IES recognises volunteers for their outstanding contributions.

Professor Seeram has been named among the Top 1% Highly Cited Researchers in cross-field and materials science categories since 2014 by Clarivate and is also named among the World's Most Influential Minds by Thomson Reuters.

He is an elected Fellow of UK Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng); Singapore Academy of Engineering; Indian National Academy of Engineering; ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology; and American Association for the Advancement of Science in addition to several professional societies.

He has also served as NUS Vice-President of Research Strategy, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Chairman of Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore, Director of NUS Enterprise, and Director of NUS Industry Liaison Office.
