After a long postponement caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, colleagues from CDE were honoured at The Outstanding Educator Award (OEA) Public Lectures 2021 held recently at Lecture Theatre 3.

The session was a belated celebration to honour the cohort of 2021 winners and marks the first face-to-face event by the NUS Centre for Development of Teaching and Learning (CDTL) in more than two years.

Highlights of the 19 May event included a Welcome Address by Associate Professor Soo Yuen Jien, Director, CDTL; an Opening Address by Professor Bernard Tan, NUS Senior Vice Provost (Undergraduate Education); Outstanding Educator Award Public Lecture by Associate Professor Alfred Kow, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine; and a video montage featuring award winners.

Opening the proceedings, Associate Professor Soo Yuen Jien noted that the event "celebrates and highlights extraordinary efforts made in education by our colleagues."

While the pandemic posed many challenges, he said that it was heartening to see how colleagues had leveraged technology to "offer students a colourful and vibrant academic journey."

Professor Bernard Tan subsequently presented his Opening Address. He congratulated all winners on their valuable achievements and contributions to education.

He highlighted that the event also marked the first Annual Digital Education Award (ADEA), which aims to promote high-quality teaching through thoughtful integration of appropriate technology with teaching.

Following Professor Tan's speech, Associate Professor Alfred Kow delivered his lecture: Harnessing Technology in Medical Education: The Way Forward. The insightful session focused on the topic of how technology has been critical in enhancing the experience and needs of learners as they strive to build a strong foundation in the new post-pandemic era.

The session concluded with a video montage featuring winners who won the 2021 Annual Teaching Excellence Award (ATEA), Annual Digital Education Award (ADEA), and Honour Roll.

Congratulations to our colleagues whose achievements and contributions have been recognised in the 2021 awards. Another event will be conducted later this year to celebrate the 2022 cohort winners at a date to be confirmed.
