FACULTY AND STAFF UPDATES

New Faculty and Staff

Dr Leo Chen Huei
Senior Lecturer, Department of Biomedical Engineering

Before joining NUS, Dr Leo Chen Huei was a faculty member at the Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD). He completed his PhD in Physiology and Pharmacology at RMIT University, Australia, in 2012. Prior to joining SUTD, he was a research fellow at the University of Melbourne, where he led preclinical studies in collaboration with Novartis to understand the vascular actions of a reproductive hormone, relaxin. In 2017, he joined SUTD under the Ministry of Education, Singapore Teaching and Research Talent Scheme, where his research aims to develop food waste-derived nutraceutical products for health benefits. Furthermore, he is involved in multidisciplinary projects in 3D food printing, bioprinting of vascular mimetics, and serious games for healthcare and education.

Dr Yang Yi
Senior Lecturer, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Before joining NUS, Dr Yang Yi worked in the Sustainability Department of JTC, where he played a pivotal role in driving the organisation's sustainability agenda. He led the development of a comprehensive sustainability master plan, defining the organisation’s decarbonisation targets and strategies across the real estate value chain. Dr Yang’s portfolio at JTC also involved leading practical R&D in collaboration with universities, companies and public agencies. These collaborative efforts focus on diverse aspects of sustainable urban development, spanning sustainable building materials, advanced structural systems, waste treatment and recycling, and circular estate planning.

Dr Cui Yue
Lecturer, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Dr Cui Yue graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a BEng (First Class Honors) in Civil Engineering in 2014. He obtained his MS in Civil Engineering and PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2015 and 2022, respectively. He joined the Institute of High-Performance Computing in the Agency for Science Technology and Research as a scientist in 2022. His primary research interests have been in computational mechanics, where he uses multiscale modelling tools, supercomputers, and machine-learning methods to study the behaviours of structural materials. He developed computational models to understand structural materials at quantum-mechanical scale, atomic scale, and traditional continuum scale. He has also worked on research projects with industry partners such as Rolls-Royce, Boeing and Honeywell. Cui Yue received the MSc Class of 1977 Silver Medal in 2014 for his academic performance at NUS. He received the Aerospace Engineering Outstanding Graduate Student Fellowship in 2020 and the Aerospace Engineering Alumni Advisory Board Fellowship in 2021 for his excellence in teaching and research in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at UIUC.

Dr Liang Fang-Cheng
Lecturer, Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Prior to his tenure at NUS, Dr Fang Cheng Liang served as a Research Assistant Professor at the Research and Development Center of Smart Textile Technology at the National Taipei University of Technology. He received his dual PhD degrees in Polymer Science and Engineering and Organic Chemistry from the National Taipei University of Technology and the University of Grenoble Alpes in 2019. His current research is centred on bio-based self-healing materials, hybrid organic and inorganic perovskite applications in light-emitting diodes, triboelectric nanogenerators, soft robotics, and wearable electronics. He has authored over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, including Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Advanced Science, and Chemical Engineering Journal.
