Associate Professor Khoo Eng Tat

Associate Professor Khoo Eng Tat is Assistant Dean (Research and Technology) at the National University of Singapore College of Design and Engineering (CDE), where he oversees the college’s innovation portfolio and initiatives that translate research into real-world impact. In this role, he advances translational research and deep-technology startups emerging from CDE, strengthening pathways that move faculty and student innovations from the laboratory to industry and society. He also chairs the CDE Ethics Review Committee, guiding responsible research practices and ensuring that emerging technologies are developed with strong ethical foundations.

A/Prof Khoo is also the Director of the Institute for Design and Engineering Leadership and an Associate Professor at the Engineering Design and Innovation Centre, with joint appointment at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is the founding lecturer and module coordinator of EG4301A Ideas to Startup, a pre-accelerator final-year project course that guides students in transforming innovative ideas into venture-ready startups. He also coordinates the EDIC Entrepreneur Fellowship, which supports graduates and alumni in developing and scaling their startup ventures.

Before joining academia, A/Prof Khoo was R&D Director at a pioneering VR/AR company, where he led interdisciplinary engineering teams and spearheaded new product development. He also co-founded a VR startup and later served as Head of Engineering at a venture capital firm.
