CDE Summer School

CDE Summer School is a 3 days 2 night camp designed to stir curiosity and inculcate a life-long fascination for engineering and design into the students through inspiring lectures by university professors, creative workshops, and engaging demonstrations at state-of-the-art laboratories at NUS for an experiential learning in a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment.

Through the Summer School programme, participants will have a unique opportunity to experience what it's like to be a CDE student at NUS and network with other like-minded individuals and build lasting connections with peers and instructors.

CDE Summer School 2026: Robotics & Sustainability Edition

Held from 3–5 June 2026, CDE Summer School 2026 welcomed over 80 pre-university students from across Singapore for an exciting three-day journey into the world of design, engineering and robotics.

This year's theme, Robotics and Sustainability, challenged participants to explore how engineering and design can work together to address real-world sustainability challenges. Throughout the programme, students took part in a series of faculty-led workshops and learning experiences, including:

  1. 3D Modelling Workshop
  2. Visual Communication Workshop
  3. Intro to Robotics Workshop
  4. Electrolysis for Sustainable Mobility Workshop

Students then applied these newly acquired skills in the Cleaning Robot Challenge.

Inspired by the growing need for smarter and more sustainable waste management solutions, teams were tasked with designing and building a robotic cleaning system capable of collecting and sorting waste in a simulated hawker centre environment.
