FACULTY AND STAFF UPDATES
New Faculty and Staff
Professor Tang Chuyang
Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Before joining NUS, Prof Tang Chuyang served as a Chair Professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of Hong Kong. Prof Tang received his BEng (First Class Honors, 2000) and MEng (2001) degrees from Nanyang Technological University, and his PhD degree (2007) from Stanford University.
His research focuses on membrane and filter technology, environmental materials, desalination, water reuse, resource recovery, and water-energy nexus. He has over 400 refereed publications and has been recognised as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (Cross Field, 2021-2024; Environment and Ecology, 2025). Prof Tang’s works on membrane fouling, membrane characterisation, and novel membrane materials and processes have been highly influential. His invention on aquaporin-based biomimetic membranes has resulted in the successful commercialisation of Aquaporin Inside Membranes (AIMs®) by Aquaporins Asia Singapore and has been widely recognised as a highly impactful invention in the desalination field. Prof Tang is a recipient of Hong Kong Research Grants Council’s Senior Research Fellowship, Finland Distinguished Professor Program Fellowship and International Desalination Association Fellowship.
Dr Wang Wenjia
Assistant Professor, Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management
Dr Wang Wenjia joins the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering & Management as a Presidential Young Professor. He received his PhD in Operations Research from the School of Industrial & Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and BS in Yuanpei College at Peking University. His research interests lie in uncertainty quantification, stochastic simulation, machine learning, nonparametric statistics, and computer experiments.
Ms Sarah Shahbal Tan Chin
Teaching Assistant, NUS Cities, Dean’s Office
Ms Sarah Tan recently completed her Master of Arts and Sciences in Global Urbanism at University College London (UCL), delivered by the Urban Laboratory at The Bartlett. Using the lenses of cultural ecology and counter-cartography, her dissertation explored how ground-level experiences in repurposed creative clusters can inform the future of Singapore’s arts infrastructure.
Her current research interests include placemaking, arts and culture, and urban governance.
Mr Ahmal Sukri Bin Tukimin
Assistant Manager, Department of Mechanical Engineering
Mr Ahmal Sukri Bin Tukimin was with Corporate Communications at the NUS Faculty of Science, where he supported editorial work, social media strategy and multimedia projects. He now supports communications and outreach at the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Mr Lin Yuehan
Senior Executive, Office of Graduate Programmes, Dean’s Office
Mr Lin Yuehan supports academic matters and programme operations in the Office of Graduate Programmes. Previously, in his research role in CDE, he coordinated stakeholder collaboration, provided administrative and procurement support in academic environments, contributed to digital platform enhancements, and improved operational workflows for research deliverables.
He is committed to supporting initiatives that make a meaningful and lasting impact on students' continuous learning journeys. Outside of work, he enjoys taking long walks while capturing photos of scenic views.
Ms Jesmine Lim Xin Yi
