CDE Alumni Awards

The NUS College of Design and Engineering Alumni Awards were instituted in 1989 with the titles and honours that the College confers to their alumni for their outstanding work and contributions to their alma mater, their organisation, and society. The awards include the Distinguished Alumni, Alumni Excellence, Outstanding Young Alumni, Alumni Rising Star, and the Team Excellence Awards.

Award Categories

Distinguished Alumni Award

This prestigious award is conferred on CDE alumni who have distinguished themselves nationally or internationally by their excellent and sustained contributions and achievements in public and community service; entrepreneurship; or in a profession or scholarly field.

Alumni Excellence Award

This award recognises CDE alumni aged above 40 years old who have distinguished themselves in their chosen profession, and exemplary contributions to CDE (SDE and/or FoE) and/or NUS. Nominee’s public and community service records in Singapore will also be considered.

Outstanding Young Alumni Award

This award recognises CDE alumni aged between 31 and 40 years old. Selections are based on success in their chosen profession, and contributions to CDE (SDE and/or FoE) and/or NUS. Nominee’s public and community service records in Singapore will also be considered.

Alumni Rising Star Award

This award recognises CDE alumni aged 30 and below. Selections are based on success in their chosen profession, and contributions to CDE (SDE and/or FoE) and/or NUS. Nominee’s public and community service records in Singapore will also be considered.

Team Excellence Award

This award recognises the outstanding achievements of alumni teams who have collectively distinguished themselves in their chosen fields. They should have rendered good volunteer service to CDE (SDE and/or FoE), NUS and/or the community.

Assessment Procedure

Evaluation of nominees will be undertaken by an Awards Selection Committee, consisting of faculty members from CDE, alumni community, and one or two external member(s) qualified in the pertinent field(s) of expertise.

Awards will not be made in the event that no deserving candidates are identified.

Qualifying Criteria

Nominee must be graduated from the College of Design and Engineering (formerly known as SDE and FoE). Current programme list, but not limited to:

Undergraduates or Graduate programmes hosted by Departments of Architecture, Biomedical engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering and Management, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Built Environment, Industrial Design and Dean’s Office.

Evaluation Criteria

Distinguished Alumni Award

Nominees are evaluated in terms of their contributions in one or more of the following areas:

  • Public and community service
  • Entrepreneurship/Innovation/Technopreneurship
  • Contributions to CDE (SDE and/or FoE) and/or NUS

Team Excellence Award

Nominees are evaluated in terms of their contributions in one or more of the following areas:

  • Contributions to CDE (SDE and/or FoE) or NUS
  • Public and community service
  • Team members (up to 6) must be NUS alumni with at least 50% from CDE (SDE and/or FoE)

Alumni Excellence Award / Outstanding Young Alumni Award / Alumni Rising Star Award

Nominees are evaluated in terms of their contributions in the following areas:

  • Current age (as at application),
  • Achievement and impact in their career,
  • Contribution to CDE (SDE and/or FoE) and/or NUS, especially the extent of their engagement, and/or
  • Public and community service
