Distinguished Alumni Award
Mr. Mok is the Managing Director of W Architects Pte Ltd. He is known for his innovative contemporary architecture as well as his sensitive restoration and adaptive re-use of historic monuments and conserved buildings.
His works are characterised by thoughtfulness, introspection, and precise articulation. Drawing from his Chinese roots, he extracts spatial qualities of traditional Chinese architecture to arrive at contemporary solutions, emphasizing place-making over stylistic moves.
Mr. Mok has shaped his practice, mentored young architects, and championed Singapore’s modern built heritage over a career spanning 40 years. He is also a Professor of Practice and the Chair of Department Consultative Committee in the Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore, inspiring students as a role model.
Mr. Tan, as the Regional President of the South East Asia region for Applied Materials since 2018, has achieved notable contributions to the company, the semiconductor industry, and the community. Under his leadership, Applied Materials received the Straits Times Best Employer Award in Singapore for three consecutive years (2020-2022). He has led Applied Materials to double its headcount in Singapore since 2018, supporting industry growth and establishing it as a significant contributor to Singapore's semiconductor equipment sector. He fostered private-public partnerships, allowing cutting-edge technologies to be developed and manufactured in Singapore, driving innovations in the global semiconductor industry. Applied Materials, under Mr. Tan's guidance, engages with the community through education, civic engagement, arts and culture, and environmental initiatives. The company increased its charitable giving during the pandemic, donating over S$2 million to support vulnerable youth, families and community through environmental and arts programmes. It also supports underprivileged students through bursaries at SUTD, SIT and Temasek Polytechnic.
Mr. Tan has actively contributed to the collaboration between Applied Materials and NUS. He played a pivotal role in the creation of the Applied Materials-NUS Advanced Materials Corporate Lab, driving research and talent development. As a board member of NUS SCALE Industry Advisory Board, he provides input for Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes to enhance industry relevance and innovation. He participated in the NUS CDE College Formation Task Force, contributing to the establishment of a future-focused learning institution for engineering, architecture, and design. Applied Materials has also supported the CO-OP Internship Programme with NUS, providing students with valuable industry experience and career opportunities.
In recognition of these contributions, Applied Materials received the Distinguished Partner in Progress award from the Singapore government in 2019 for its economic and community impact. Mr. Tan's leadership has been instrumental in driving positive changes in Applied Materials' operations, industry collaboration, and community engagement.
Dr. Teo held various positions including Mayor of North West District (2001-2020), Director roles in Thai Village Holdings Ltd, GKE Holdings Pte Ltd, and Icost Systems Pte Ltd (1999-2001). He served as a Member of Parliament for Bukit Panjang (1996-2020) and as the CEO of Jurong Town Council (1992-1996). He has been actively engaged in public and community service roles. He was the Vice-chairman of Singapore Environment Council (2004 -2022), Chairman of Mayor’s Committee (2014-2015) and also held the position of Deputy Government Whip (2011-2015). He played a significant role as the Coordinating Chairman for 15 PAP Town Councils (2006-2020), overseeing town management and development matters. He was the Chairman of Government Parliamentary Committees for National Development,  Environment & Water Resources, Law and Home Affairs. He was also a Member of PAP Central Executive Committee, Chairman of Holland-Bukit Panjang Town Council, President of Consumers’ Association of Singapore (1999-2001), and President of Singapore Institute of Building Limited (1996-2002). Â
Dr. Teo has contributed to the University by being an adjunct professor in the department. He supported learning activities for undergraduate students as the President of Building & Estate Management Alumni Association (BEMA). He has initiated and organised activities through BEMA and Singapore Institute of Building Limited (SIBL), raising S$155,500 for the SIBL-BEMA Scholarship for DBE undergraduates. He also facilitated student internships in the industry and raised funds for SDE Development Fund in 2019. Â
Overall, Dr. Teo has held significant political positions, contributed to community development, and played a role in supporting education and professional development through his involvement with the University and various industry organisations.Â
