In the 14th Edition of the Urban and Built Environment (CUBE) Workshop, an annual competition held by URA Challenge in November, 18 students from the Department of Architecture once again participated as facilitators. The competition cum workshop, designed for pre-university students from institutions such as ITE, JCs, and Polytechnics, saw more than 140 students participating this year, developing an impressive masterplan proposal for the former Jurong Bird Park site over a period of five days from 20th to 24th November 2023. Despite the challenging learning process, the students, guided by the facilitators, acquired priceless experience in urban planning design.

Participating as a facilitator in the CUBE challenge was an enlightening and fulfilling journey. Guiding ambitious students through the intricacies of urban planning and design was not only satisfying but also a learning experience for me. Watching their creative ideas evolve into practical solutions for urban rejuvenation was a reminder of the limitless potential of young minds. This role challenged me to think differently, adapt to various perspectives, and deepen my understanding of collaborative problem-solving. The growth I experienced personally and professionally during this process is invaluable. I’m truly grateful for this enriching opportunity to facilitate and learn in such a dynamic environment!” – Wayne Tan, BLA Year 3
