DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY AND MASTER OF ARTS By RESEARCH (Architecture)
Overview
The Department of Architecture offers postgraduate research degrees in the disciplines of history and theory of architecture, urban planning and design, landscape architecture, and design technologies. They train and cultivate the next generation of researchers and practitioners who choose to pursue careers in academia, industry and government.
The maximum period of candidature for Master’s by Research is three years. As for the EngD/PhD programme, the maximum period of candidature is five years.
The programmes encourage intellectual independence, rigour and creativity with the mentorship of faculty members. All students receive pre-candidacy training in qualitative and quantitative methodologies and academic writing/communication, in addition to completing a requisite amount of coursework. Faculty advisors also provide specialized training relevant to their fields of research.
Applicants to the programmes are expected to identify their topics of study and contact faculty members whom they wish to work with well in advance of their application. Financial support is available on a competitive basis.
