General Rules
Tools
- Record all tools borrowed in the loan book.
- Tools must be returned to the correct location after use.
- The tools and machinery must not be taken out of the workshop without permission.
Personal
- Dispose any unwanted and remove unused material from the workshop.
- Clean up the machine and the work area after use.
- Students are not allowed to stay in the workshop after the operating hours.
- Students will be denied access to the model workshop facilities if they do not follow the above rules and workshop safety regulation.
- Eating, drinking and smoking is prohibited.
Safety Rules
- Use the right tools at all time in the workshop.
- Wear safety glasses/goggles whenever it is required.
- Extreme caution should be used when using any cutting machines.
- Clothing should be appropriate for working in the workshop. Jackets and other loose garments (Jewellery, necklaces and rings etc) should be removed.
- Proper work dress for workshop should include long pants. Footwear should be covered ones for protection.
- Loose hair must be tied back.
- Hand and power tools may be used by Authorized Users upon completion of training by a workshop staff.
- Report any damage to machines/equipment to the workshop staff as this could cause an accident.
- Report any accident occurred to the workshop staff immediately.
- Students are reminded of the mandatory safety orientation training in week zero before being allowed to use the machines.
Covid-19 Safety Measures
- Complete the safety video training for students upon returning to campus. Refer to compulsory training by OSHE – NUS Covid-19 return to workplace training.
- Ensure to have made travel declaration. Refer to safety advice by OSHE.
- Sign-in to uNivUS (NUS’s official mobile app for students & staff – Health declaration and NUSafe apps); using the NUS WiFi network when you are on campus so that NUSafe is activated.
- Ensure to do safe entry check via the uNivUS.
- Ensure twice-daily temperature declarations via the uNivUS.
- Keep to your designated zone as reflected in uNivUS.
- Maintain a distance of 1-meter from each other and between groups at all times.
- Keep to the designated area (yellow markings) when you are in the workshop area.
- Put on a mask at all times.
- Equipment need to be cleaned before and after use with wet wipes provided.
- Hand sanitizer is provided and to be used before and after use of facilities.
Safe Work Practices
Laser Engraver
- Load the file into Corel Draw software
- Place your work piece on the top left corner of the honeycomb cutting table in the machine
- Ensure that your work piece does not exceed the size limit of the honeycomb cutting table
- When lasering is in progress, do not leave the machine unattended
- Do not look directly at the laser beam for too long
- After completion of your work, remove the bits and pieces of the cut out materials.
- Throw the unwanted materials in the dust bin
- Switch off the machine after use
Note: Do not use Vinyl and PVC based materials on Laser Engraver
