Harmony House
The project is a dwelling sited in Gillman Barracks for a pole dancer. Developed from the keywords “allure” and “veil”, the scheme seeks to reframe the common notion of a pole dancer as a sexualized object into one of artist as subject using dance as expression. Circulation through the dwelling is controlled so that visitors can never perceive the occupant’s true identity. Translucent surfaces create allure but also act as “veils”, hinting at the occupant’s presence, but never revealing it. Set along the edge of a carpark in Gillman Barracks, only stages for night performance peak through the lush vegetation.
