Venture Village
This project recognises the risk avoidance tendency of individuals, and collectively as a community. Hence, this project aims to develop a “Venture Village” – where entrepreneurs can gather at this community that welcomes and embraces risk-taking.
Learning from the organisation principles of Venice and Paris, the site at Alexandra is developed as a pedastrianised network of streets, with layers of walkways and hotspots, guided by six main anchor spaces – Sports Centre, Post Office, Business Centre, Shared Workshop and Green-railway Park. The project also preserves several buildings and part of the old grid of the existing site.
The village is made up of four basic types of housing – shophouses that have direct exposure to the public in three scales and a more private home-office. All four types are designed to encourage risk-taking – five features including Construction, Space for Growth, Flexible Space in Lower Floors, Airwell, and Adaptable Edges. Over 200 basic units will be built in the village, and should develop into unique and distinct individual units that showcases the occupants’ colour.
