The NUS-BFH International Workshop will address issues/challenges on the Mass Timber Architecture in the Tropics as well as on-going advanced development in Europe. As the nature of contemporary architectural practice, especially in the area of Mass Timber Architecture, it will be highly multidisciplinary discourse from regulatory, forestry, manufacturing, architecture, engineering, building physics and building systems point of views. Key learning objective is to understand challenges and possibilities of Mass Timber Architecture in the Tropics through multidisciplinary discourse between architecture and engineering primarily, which will be supported by key industry players, such as architects, structural engineers, manufacturers and contractors. The workshop participants will have opportunities to design and fabricate one of the first tropical Mass Engineered Timber (MET) architectural prototypes from fast-growing tropical plantation timber, understanding key design and technical considerations for MET architecture, such as mechanical, thermal, acoustics, aesthetic requirements.
