The 2019 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (Hong Kong) (UABBHK2019), organised by The Hong Kong Institute of Architects Biennale Foundation (HKIABF) in association with The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), The Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) and Hong Kong Designers Association (HKDA), is held at The Mills, Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and other Satellite Sites from December 2019 to March 2020.

UABBHK2019 marks the seventh edition of the Biennale since 2007. With the theme 2 x 2: Imagine to Innovate, the curatorial team is focussing on future interpretations of the city. Projects with highly imaginative propositions and possibly innovative applications of new technology in the context of emergent need were sought. Narratives included creative and forward-thinking concerns of the city seeking ways to unlock possibilities for near and distant futures. Project proposals were shortlisted and then selected for their potential to contribute to research and development on the built environment in Hong Kong and in the global context.

The submission of NUS Architecture alumni’s Masters Thesis design research on Oil Rig Settlements, led by Dr Joseph Lim was reviewed and accepted by a curatorial team comprising Mr Roger Wu of HKIA, Mr Alan Cheung and Ms Sarah Mui as well as an International Advisory Curatorial Team – Mr Peter Murray, Mr Tim Stonor and Ms Laura Mazzeo.
