“Sustainability is not a thing to be added mid-way through the design process. It should be a fundamental way of rethinking how we design from the very start”, says Dr Nirmal Kishnani, Associate Professor, Program Director of Master of Science, Integrated Sustainable Design (MSc, ISD) at the National University of Singapore, School of Design and Environment, Department of Architecture.

Dr Kishnani led a group of students from MSc, ISD to reimagine the Sungei Kadut district, and come up with plans for the area that demonstrate sustainability and resilience. Their ideas were shown at JTC Corporation’s  Sungei Kadut Eco District exhibition, at The URA Centre from Feb to 20 Mar 2020. His ISD studio went into a second round on the Sungei Kadut masterplan from Jan to April 2020. Both studios were sponsored by JTC and carried out in collaboration with WOHA.
