The Vertical Cities Asia International Design Competition and Symposium was created to encourage design explorations and research into the prospects of new architectural and planning models for the increasingly vertical, dense and intense urban environments of Asia. Each year, there was an unique theme arising from site specificities to challenge the design efforts. The themes have dealt with issues of air quality, liveability, ageing population, food security, connectivity, ecology, community, circular and sharing economy.
This set of publications brings together a collection of innovative design and theoretical approaches proposed by the participating universities: The Chinese University of Hong Kong, ETH Zurich, National University of Singapore, Tongji University, Tokyo University, Tsinghua University, TU Delft, University of California Berkeley, University of Michigan, and University of Pennsylvania.
