WOHA’s Pan Pacific Orchard project named “Best Tall Building Worldwide” at 2024 CTBUH Awards
On 2nd October 2024, the architectural marvel Pan Pacific Orchard — a 23-storey hotel in Singapore designed by the acclaimed architecture studio WOHA — was awarded the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat’s (CTBUH) 2024 accolade for the world’s best new tall building. The project also clinched the titles of “Best Tall Building 100-199m” and the “Space Within” award.
Ar. Wong Mun Summ, co-founder of WOHA and a practice professor in the NUS Department of Architecture, as well as an alumnus of the Class of 1989, shared his appreciation, stating, “This project marks the culmination of 25 years of collaboration with UOL. We thank Mr Liam (UOL Group Chief Executive) for his openness to new ideas and commitment to innovation. Pan Pacific Orchard demonstrates that we can do more in our buildings for nature, with nature. It pushed the boundaries on tall building design, bringing nature and amenities into multiple levels to deliver a highly sustainable and livable environment. We must remember we are part of nature.”
Situated in the bustling Orchard Road district, the Pan Pacific Orchard hotel houses 350 rooms and features four expansive planted terraces seamlessly integrated into its rectangular form. This project introduces a pioneering approach to nature-positive vertical urbanism, benefiting people, the neighbourhood, and the environment by increasing urban biodiversity. The building is a testament to tropical, breezy open-air architecture, with lush greenery spread across its four distinct levels, which include a matrix of guest rooms, social spaces, and garden terraces.
Pan Pacific Orchard is a property of the UOL Group and is managed by Pan Pacific Hotels Group. WOHA served as the architect, interior designer, landscape designer and signage consultant, working in partnership with a team of expert consultants and contractors to bring this visionary project to life.
