LAD2006 Design 3
This course applies principles of landscape design to a site-specific project. The studio introduces to students core design processes, including site analysis, design strategies, design development, and visualization. The assigned project will grow students’ knowledge of tropical ecosystems, from the physiological characteristics of plant species to biophysical processes and interactions.
Students are asked to consider how landscape architects might respond to climatic conditions in the tropics (high rainfall, humidity and heat) and its unique ecosystem characteristics (high biodiversity, high primary productivity). The module will also introduce students to a problem-solving design approach where landscape problems and opportunities are systematically defined and targeted design strategies proposed.
