Richard Ho graduated from the NUS School of Architecture in 1982 and worked for William S W Lim and Kerry Hill, both eminent Singapore architects, from 1982 to 1985 before venturing to Europe where he worked for six years in Austria and Italy – the last two years in Milan with Aldo Rossi. He returned to Singapore in Nov 1991 and set up RichardHO Architects.

In the President’s Design Awards 2013, Richard has been awarded the Designer of the Year 2013 – the highest and most prestigious award conferred by the State to a design professional.

For the past twenty-seven years, Richard’s practice has won a number of international and local architecture awards. In the year 2000, it was awarded the Gold Medal in the ARCASIA (Architects Regional Council of Asia) Architecture Awards. RichardHO Architects has won thus far, seven SIA (Singapore Institute of Architects) Design Awards and four URA (Urban Redevelopment Authority) Architectural Heritage Awards.

Richard firmly believes that an architect must actively engage civil society, not only through his practice but also in volunteering in other initiatives that can bring a change for the better in his profession and society at large. Over the years, he has been appointed by the Minister of National Development to varous committees – most recently, serving as a member of the Conservation Design Advisory Panel of the Urban Redevelopment Authority. He has also been voted in as a Board member of the Board of Architects (BOA) for two terms from 2012 to 2018.

Richard served two terms as a Council Member of the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) in 2015 & 2016 and chaired its Design Thrust. He was the Chair of the jury panel for the SIA Architectural Design Awards in 2015 and 2016, Chair of the jury panel for the SIA-Getz Emerging Architect Award in 2015 and the SIA-Uniseal G-Architect Award 2016.

Richard has been teaching in the Department of Architecture, NUS since 1998 and appointed as Professor in Practice in 2015. He is also Advisor to The Architecture Society, NUS – a students’ society he helped set up in 1980.
