What made you choose the course in NUS over other courses?

I have always wanted to do pursue my PhD abroad. Understanding my interest my Professor encouraged me to get in touch with Prof Qiang Meng when I was completing my final year of my undergraduate programme at School of Transportation in Southeast University, China

I was impressed with NUS’s global ranking and the credibility of the Transportation Progamme in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

What you like most about this course in NUS?

Although the coursework in the program was very similar to those in my undergraduate, the experience and knowledge I gained were more in-dept. The wide range of studying materials, dedicated and knowledgeable professors, hands-on course projects, the platform which allows in-class discussion and teamwork allowed me to be an allrounder.

Besides the coursework, the research training from Prof Meng is the most important ingredient of my PhD study in NUS. Prof Meng patiently guided each PhD student on how to do research, deal with challenges both in studies and life, communicate and collaborate with others on the pathway towards a qualified PhD.

How the course has helped you with your everyday/work life?

The PhD programme has shaped my own teaching/training style and intrigued my interest in research. From the confidence that I gained in NUS, I choose to embark my career as a academic.

Currently I am a faculty member of Monash University, Australia and Southeast University, China. I have adapted the teaching method and style from Prof Meng and his team. I have carried the torch ignited from NUS, and taken it with me to Australia and China, and I believe that I have also inspired and illuminated some minds with this light.

Any tips for incoming and current students?
