Educator-Track Faculty Positions

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for a Lecturer Position under the Educator Track Scheme to start in 1st January 2024. The candidate must, in addition to having expertise in Structural Engineering, demonstrate teaching experience as evidenced by a positive impact on student learning in higher educational settings, as well as commitment to collegial sharing of their work within the local educational environment.

As education is a core mission of the University, the Educator Track is conceived as a career progression path for excellent teachers and educational leaders. The candidate should hold a doctorate in Structural Engineering or in a related field. In NUS, the general expectations for commitments to teaching for an academic staff on educator track is up to 2 times the normal teaching commitment of a Tenure Track staff, although the precise teaching commitment will be decided on a case-by-case basis depending on the needs of the Department, and the aptitude, potential, activity and achievements of the individual with respect to research. For Educator Track staff, some record of disciplinary research (particularly research that informs teaching) is considered an advantage and not a requirement on the Educator Track.

The candidate must be able to teach effectively in his undergraduate and graduate teaching. Relevant experience in teaching Structural Analysis, Design of Steel Structures/Reinforced Concrete Structures, Mechanics of Materials, and other areas of emerging interest in Structural Engineering and professional qualifications will be considered favorably. Candidates having expertise with teaching in an online or flipped classroom environment and/or good industry experience will have an added advantage.

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), invites applications for the educator-track Lecturer/Instructor positions in Geotechnical Engineering.

The candidate should hold a doctorate in Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline, preferably with background and experience in, but not limited to, one or more of the following geotechnical domain expertise: underground space, land creation, sustainable geo-materials and coastal resilience. Additional skills and knowledge in centrifuge modelling, data analytics and machine learning will be considered favorably. Postdoctoral experience and/or relevant industry experience and professional qualifications (e.g. professional engineer) will be highly advantageous.

Faculty members will be expected to teach existing undergraduate and graduate courses as part of the Civil Engineering curriculum, as well as develop new and innovative courses related to geotechnical engineering and sustainability.
