Used Water Treatment and Reuse

Water is an essential life-supporting commodity. It is essential for food and energy production. In addition, its availability will determine the social and economic development of every nation. More than 1 billion people lack of access to reliable water source and 2 billion people lack of proper sanitation in the world. It is therefore evident that ensuring sustainable water supply is a critical challenge at both national and global scales. Efficient management and treatment of used water prevents contamination of water sources and enhance the potential of meeting increasing demand for clean water supply. It also facilitates reclaiming used water for reuse purpose.

The series of R&D focuses on understanding the mechanisms and optimizing various novel engineering platforms that will allow real-world solutions. CWR explored disinfection technology, advanced oxidation processes, membrane, biological processes, adsorption and electrochemical technologies in relation to product water chemical and microbial safety. CWR research team is continuously researching for innovative and sustainable technological solutions for water quality enhancement. Detailed attention is given to the design, perform pilot- and full-scale technologies, evaluation of cost and engineering process for optimal and cost-effective operation.

Renewable Energy and Resource Recovery

CWR contributed towards many new developments in renewable energy and resource recovery. Research focuses on renewable energy and resource recovery is important for circular economy and sustainable development. CWR’s aim is to minimize waste and develop new functional systems to recover energy and resource from waste products. Water treatment residue coupled with plant growth media is one of the novel technologies developed and patented by CWR’s research team. The novel media can be applied in bioretention to attain high nutrients removal.

Water Treatment & Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment

CWR is at the frontier of this exploratory R&D to develop new, rapid, accurate and sensitive detection methods for measuring emerging organics, biofilms and pathogenic contaminants in various water matrices. CWR has developed novel environmental biotechnologies by harnessing biological processes to improve environmental quality in complex systems. CWR also investigated relationships between water quality parameters collected using sensor data from different pipelines and utilized modeling tools for management of drinking water distribution system.
