GC Graduates
Congratulations, from Graduate Certificate programs, you have now successfully completed MSc Program…!
Class of 2022.
Over 250 students have enrolled since 2016 into various Graduate Certificate programmes offered by Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering with over 150 graduation so far. Of this number, 134 have further enrolled in our MSc programmes, and 78 of them have graduated from the MSc programmes.
Students come from companies across Singapore: AECOM, T S Lee Civil Structural Associates, Surbana Jurong, Shimizu Corporation, Penta Ocean Construction Co. Ltd, Mott MacDonald Singapore Pte Ltd, CKM Consultants Pte Ltd, CS Consulting Engineers Pte Ltd, Changi Airports International, Woh Hup Pte Ltd, GS Engineering and Construction, LTA, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, WSP Consultancy Pte Ltd – just to name a few.
Recently, we are pleased to also admit more international students to the programmes.
Here is what some have to say:
Ms Ayingaran Shivajini
I have greatly benefitted from this program. This program helped me to deepen my understanding in geotechnical engineering & technology, tunnelling and deep excavation. There are many situations for which interaction between super structure and sub structure has to be considered. This program has bridged the gap between structural and geotechnical design concepts.
I'm also glad to have this group of students my friends here who had shared their knowledge and experience during the course work. We all studied together and shared our experiences & knowledge. All of them were sincere in their studies and some of them have already gotten the opportunity to continue reading their masters in NUS. I must highlight one more thing I applied to NUS masters many times and all my attempts were failed. Because of this program today my dream came true. We thank NUS and the program coordinators for this wonderful opportunity to study masters in NUS. This makes me more proud to be one of the Masters students here in NUS. Thank you so much my dear program mates, for making this course successful.
Mr Ngan See Pyng
I am a practising engineer, basically I am a design engineer, involves in small and simple civil engineering works. My main role is preparing engineering calculation. So, my experience in this programme is based on a design engineer’s perspective.
Many changes have occurred over the years, especially on underground works, the regulatory requirements on ERSS and tunnelling, in terms of engineering calculation, are very high and very rigid. For those involved in the projects from agencies would agree that, almost every single issue needs to be proven by engineering calculation. My past education is simply not adequate to fulfil such conditions.
These are the hot topics that agencies emphasize these days, especially projects from the agencies. Stringent rules on these subjects are written in the specifications from the agencies.
If your work scope in your organisation is a design engineer for underground works, these are the basic courses that you must take, not just taking it, you need to master it as well.
All professors have deep knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. Even though each has different style of teaching. One thing is common, all have high enthusiasm for teaching and also committed to teaching. Every lecture was fast, intense and exciting, and always with the aim to complete the notes without compromise the quality of lecture. Important topics are always emphasized multiple times.
Mr Kokulan Sivalingam
When I enrolled this program, I was bit hesitated about whether I could be able to catch up with the geotechnical modules within this short period of time. But all the academic staff put a great effort to teach us the subjects and also reminded us the fundamentals to get a good understanding and they shared their valuable field experiences over the candidature period. All of them are domain experts and shared their wide range of knowledge with us to make the course meaningful. I thank all of them from the bottom of my heart as a representative of my class.
I have greatly benefitted from this program to enhance my confidence and understanding in the certain areas of geotechnical engineering such as ground improvement, tunneling and deep excavation. In practice, There are many circumstance to manage and guide the interface between super and sub structure in projects. This program has filled the gap between structural and geotechnical design concepts which is mandatory in such cases.
I'm also glad to have this group of students, my friends here who had shared their knowledge and experience during the course work. We all studied together and shared our experiences and knowledge. All of them were sincere in their studies and some of them have already gotten the opportunity to continue reading their masters in NUS. Because of this program, my dream and the dreams of my colleagues become true today.
