S D IYER Scholarship

Anjali Iyer Private Limited made a gift of $150,000 in 2015 and another gift of $75,000 in 2017 to the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering for the purpose of establishing an endowed scholarship.

Ms Anjali Iyer and the family made this gift in memory of late Mr Subramaniam Doraswamy Iyer who was a veteran of the Indian Navy between 1951 and 1965, started as a humble shipwright and eventually qualified in Naval Architecture and Ship Construction. He moved to shore in 1965, working on senior managerial positions in various renowned Indian corporations before immigrating to Singapore. Then on, he had a fulfilling career in the marine industry of Singapore in the 1970s and 1980s.

Eligibility Criteria

  • existing student in the programme who has completed at least 4 courses with a minimum GPA of 4.25 for the best 4 courses and a minimum GPA of 4.0 for all courses taken
  • preferably with some working experience in Offshore-related field
  • concurrence from their employer for receiving this scholarship for their study (applicable only to part-time students).

Award Amount

This scholarship will be awarded to either 1 full-time student or up to 2 part-time students in MSc (Offshore Technology). When the student progresses to the following academic year, he/she will be considered for the scholarship again subject to maintaining good academic standing.

The value of each Scholarship is up to:

  • S$10,000 per annum for a full-time or
  • S$5,000 per annum for 2 part-time students.

Award/s will be given each year in January.

Application Procedure & Notification

It is by invitation only and applicants will be informed of the outcome of their applications sometime in early January.

Terms and Conditions

Successful applicants are required to sign a letter of undertaking agreeing to adhere to the following terms and conditions for the award of the Scholarship. The awardee

  • should seek concurrence from the employer for the award of this scholarship for his/her M.Sc.(Offshore Technology) study,
  • remain in the course for the year of award of scholarship and
  • must read a minimum of 2 courses if he/she is a part-time student and a minimum of 4 courses if he/she is a full-time student (unless timetable arrangement does not permit).
