In the Orientation for Future Learning – “WASTE NOT OUR FUTURE 2018” Challenge-based Learning on Sustainability City event co-organised by Canberra Primary School, Yio Chu Kang Primary School, Apple Education Programme and The National Environment Agency (NEA), CWR at NUS Researcher Mr Loh Wei Hao gave a presentation entitled ‘Water Around Us’ to 50 students from Canberra Primary School and 50 students from Suzhou Jinchang Experimental Primary School.
The presentation was presented in both English and Chinese and in this presentation he discussed about the water supply in Singapore and the steps taken by the Singapore Government to ensure that the water supply remains sustainable for future growth and beyond the 2nd Singapore-Malaysia Water Agreement which will expire in 2061. The issue was brought up to the world level also in the presentation, where it was mentioned that there would be a need to increase our water supplies to meet the demand of the increasing world population. During the presentation, the students asked questions to reflect and understand the importance of Singapore’s water supply. There was a short quiz conducted at the end of the presentation to ascertain if the students were able to understand the contents of the presentation.
Orientation for Future Learning – “WASTE NOT OUR FUTURE 2018” Challenge-based Learning on Sustainability City event encompasses the details of the “Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” or in short, “2030 Agenda”. The 17 continuation development goals are derived from the environmental sustainability issues in the 17 topics of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), so that students can understand the current social problems, use modern technology, share learning experiences, and explore future development directions.
