IASSAR 2025 Distinguished Research Award – Professor Ser Tong Quek

Prof Quek Ser Tong has been conferred the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability (IASSAR) Distinguished Research Award 2025, presented at the International Conference on Structural Safety and Reliability (ICOSSAR) held at the University of Southern California from 1-5 June 2025. The award is conferred every 4 years, each time (recent years) with up to three distinguished senior researchers for sustained quality research in the general field of Structural Safety and Reliability. The other winner for 2025 is Professor George Deodatis from Columbia University, who was previously our Chair of the CEE Visiting Committee. IASSAR is the top association, and ICOSSAR is the top international conference on Structural Safety and Reliability.

The magnitude of this accolade is huge based on the stature of past winners. The award was first conferred in 1993 and winners include renowned academics such as Professors V V Bolotin (Russia), Alfredo H S Ang (UIUC, USA), Masanobu Shinozuka (Columbia U, USA), Pol D Spanos (Rice U, USA), Dan Frangopol (Lehigh U, USA), Armen Der Kiureghian (UC Berkeley, USA), Bruce Ellingwood (Georgia Tech, USA), Hans G Natke (Germany), Christian Soize (France), Kazimierz Sobczyk  (Poland), Mario Di Paola (Italy), Masaru Hoshiya (Japan), Arvid Naess (Norway) and A C W M Vrouwenvelder (Netherlands). No academic from South East Asia has won this prestigious award.
