Together with NERI, we were delighted to host an inspiring seminar featuring Asst. Prof. Jin Xue from the School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering at Oregon State University, and chaired by Professor Hu Jiangyong, NERI Deputy Director and Director of Centre for Water Research on 10 July 2025.
Titled “Sustainable Resources Recovery for Climate-Resilient Agriculture,” Asst. Prof. Jin’s seminar addressed the urgent challenge of water scarcity in agriculture—a critical concern both globally and locally. Her research introduced a novel hybrid electrodialysis-forward osmosis (ED-FO) process that recovers essential nutrients and clean water from anaerobic digester effluent, enabling safe irrigation of crops such as lettuce, kale, and blueberry.
Asst. Prof. Jin’s expertise in membrane-based water treatment aligns closely with NERI and CWR’s research focus on developing sustainable solutions to address real-world environmental issues. Her innovative approach not only advances scientific understanding but also brings practical applications that can impact food security and environmental resilience.
We thank Asst. Prof. Jin for her valuable insights and look forward to more collaborations that drive sustainable change.
