SCI Excellence Award 2022 won by NUS Team titled on “Improving the productivity and reducing the carbon footprint for the upscaling of waste marine clay”

Our heartiest congratulations to NUS team comprises A/Prof Pang Sze Dai (leader),Dr. Du Hongjian, Senior Lecturer, Dr. Tong Shanshan, Senior Research Fellow, DoA, and Mr. Daryl Chew (CEE Meng student) have won SCI Excellence Award 2022. This award is to recognize the contribution of individuals and companies towards improvement of productivity in their buildings or civil engineering projects.

NUS team winning submission is titled “Improving the productivity and reducing the carbon footprint for the upscaling of waste marine clay”. The team has proposed a viable solution to reduce construction waste disposal, reduce carbon footprint in concrete and reduce Singapore’s reliance on imported materials. The innovative solution in green concrete can help Singapore to achieve its national climate ambition of achieving net-zero as soon as is viable after 2050. Furthermore, this solution will be a concrete example for our neighbouring countries to better utilize the generated waste while maintaining rapid urban development.

The award ceremony was held during SCI 44th Annual Gala Dinner at Paradox Singapore Merchant Court, 18th Nov 2022.
