Awards
- The third run of the Productivity Challenge 2016 was organised by Building & Construction Authority (BCA), in conjunction with Singapore Construction Productivity Week (SCPW) 2016. CEE has sent a total of 5 teams, led by Prof David Chua and Prof Tan Kiang Hwee, for the challenge. The teams were guided by Mr Venkatesan Karthik during the modelling phase. After 6 weeks of continuous effort, NUS CEE department bagged 4 out of the 5 positions, including the first and second runner-up prizes on 20 October 2016.
- A team of 3rd year design project DCP students including EVE student Ruzanna Alwi and ECE student Abonti Alam supervised by Dr Kevin Kuang Sze Chiang won the Merit Award Category of Faculty of Engineering the 30th Innovation and Research Award (2016) for their project entitled: “Tackling Open Defecation in Cambodia”.
- Adjunct Associate Professor Tam Chat Tim receiving the award at SPRING Singapore’s 50th Quality & Standards Anniversary Dinner held on 26 July 2016.
- Another team of Engineering students supervised by Dr Kevin Kuang won the 3rd Prize in a nation-wide Smart Cool Ideas for Better HDB Living Competition (2015/2016).
- A Best Paper Award is granted to the research work entitled “Photocatalytic Building Coatings for De-pollution and Sustainability” authored by Dr Padmaja Krishnan, Prof Zhang Min-Hong and A/Prof Liya E. Yu at the 4th international conference in countermeasures to urban heat islands on 1 June 2016. The award was selected from more than 190 papers presented at the conference. The work presented in the conference is part of the PhD thesis of Dr Padmaja Krishnan advised by Profs Zhang and Yu. Dr. Krishnan is now a research fellow in the department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at NUS working on the SinBerBEST project funded through NRF CREATE program.
- Prof Koh Chan Ghee whose project entitled “Extreme Wave Impact on Floating Structures: A Novel Particle Method with Experimental Validation” has been awarded the “Top Projects of the SMI Research Showcase 2015” by the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) on 22 Oct 2015. There are 3 projects awarded this year. In addition, both have generously decided to donate the award prize of $3,000 to build up our CEE Bursary fund for needy CEE students.
- PhD student Chua Yiesue under the supervision of Prof Quek Ser Tong, A/Prof Pang Sze Dai and Dr Elliot Law was awarded one of the Best Presenter Award at the 28th KKHTCNN Symposium on Civil Engineering held Chulalongkorn University on 16 – 18 Nov 2015. The conference attracted more than 200 participants with around 190 papers presented.
