Biography

Dr Shengjie Rui is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Prior to joining NUS, he was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) in Norway. He was awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Fellowship. Dr Rui’s research focuses on geotechnical and ocean engineering, particularly on offshore renewable energy, offshore geotechnics, and ocean and coastal engineering. Dr Rui has presented his research at leading universities worldwide, including Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, Imperial College London, UC (Berkeley and Davis), ETH Zürich, the University of Sydney, and Melbourne.

Research Interests

  • Offshore energy development: offshore wind energy (fixed and floating wind turbines), wave energy systems, tidal energy utilization, and floating solar platforms.
  • Offshore geotechnics: site investigation, seabed–structure interaction, offshore foundation installation, seabed dynamics, and liquefaction; centrifuge modelling for offshore foundations.
  • Ocean and coastal engineering: hydrodynamics of platforms, subsea cables, mooring systems, pipelines, and risers; installation and analysis of coastal barriers, cofferdams, and seawalls.
