Launch of CFI Singapore

One speaker labelled it the “crown jewel” of research efforts to meet the challenges that climate change poses.

PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency Chief Executive Goh Si Hou was speaking at the launch of the new Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute at NUS.

Known as CFI Singapore, the new Centre of Excellence was formally launched at a ceremony attended by Guest of Honour, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu, along with over 200 guests including researchers, students, industry professionals and representatives of partner institutions.

Led by Professor Richard Liew (Head of the NUS Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering), the multi-institutional institute brings together faculty from CDE and across NUS along with experts from other national institutions, including NTU, SUTD, SIT, and A*STAR.

With climate change driving sea levels higher, Singapore faces unique threats. CFI Singapore will develop innovative solutions, including nature-based approaches like using mangroves and seagrasses, to protect our coastlines and communities.
