Assoc Prof Lilian Chee awarded DAAD visiting academic appointment in Berlin

Associate Professor Lilian Chee (Department of Architecture) has been awarded the DAAD Gastdozentin (International Visiting Academic), funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research, taking up a visiting appointment at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences (BI).

Joining for the Spring term at BI starting in early March, Assoc Prof Chee will advise graduate and undergraduate thesis and design studios, while pursuing research focused on the built environment and social experience.

Her work in Berlin will include the co-development of a design toolkit centred on women’s experience of the built environment, alongside the preparation of a manuscript and academic papers building on her research on foundations for home-based work. Assoc Prof Chee said: “It is exciting to be able to contribute to Berlin's rich culture via creative and critical scholarship. I am grateful to Berlin International for hosting me. I look forward to working with BI's faculty and students and anticipate valuable insights through collaborative design-led teaching, research, and experimentation.”

Assoc Prof Raymond Ong named IJTST Best Editor

Associate Professor Raymond Ong has been selected as the Best Editor of the International Journal of Transportation Science and Technology (IJTST) for 2025, in recognition of his outstanding editorial contributions to the journal. He received the award at the IJTST Editorial Board Meeting on 12 January 2026 at Marriott Marquis, Washington DC, USA.

Professor Vladan Babovic awarded the Water Resources Research Editor’s Choice

Professor Vladan Babovic and his former PhD student, Dr Cai Hejiang (first author), have been awarded the Water Resources Research Editor’s Choice for their paper “Explaining the Mechanism of Multiscale Groundwater Drought Events: A New Perspective From Interpretable Deep Learning Model” on 31 Dec 2025.

Asst Prof Prateek Bansal received Best Poster Award at CTRG

Assistant Professor Prateek Bansal and his research group received the Best Poster Award at the 8th Conference of the Transportation Research Group of India (CTRG-2025), held at IIT Guwahati, 17-20 December 2025. The award was presented for the paper titled “A data fusion framework to infer multi-modal time-dependent origin–destination travel demand matrices”, in recognition of its outstanding technical quality and scholarly contribution to transportation research.

Assoc Prof Low Ying Min appointed as Editor-in-chief for Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering

Associate Professor Low Ying Min has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering for a 5-year term starting from 1 Jan 2026. The journal is published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and supported by the Ocean, Offshore, and Arctic Engineering (OOAE) technical division of ASME.

Congratulations to Dr Fan Shaojing on being selected for the 2024 ACM Health Best Paper Award: “A Comprehensive Picture of Factors Affecting User Willingness to Use Mobile Health Applications”

Mobile health (mHealth) applications play an increasingly important role in preventive healthcare and in reducing pressure on healthcare systems. The study examines the factors influencing user acceptance of mHealth apps and the underlying structure shaping users’ willingness to adopt them. The findings offer practical implications for app designers, healthcare practitioners, and policymakers, highlighting the importance of promoting digital literacy and strengthening data governance to support broader adoption of mHealth applications.

Assoc Prof Sanjib Kumar Panda awarded Ace Alumnus Award

Congratulations to Associate Professor Sanjib Kumar Panda on being selected for the Ace Alumnus Award (AAA) for 2025.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA), instituted by Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat, Gujarat, India, recognises the contributions and achievements of alumni of SVRCET/SVNIT Surat. The award focuses on alumni's contributions to society, to SVRCET/SVNIT, and to the welfare of SVNIT students. This award will be presented at the annual alumni convention to be held on 27 December 2026 in the SVNIT Campus.
