Dr Yu Jihang, Lecturer, Department of Materials Science and EngineeringĀ 
Dr Yu Jihang joined the Department of Material Science and Engineering as a lecturer in March 2023. Before joining NUS as a lecturer, she served as a principal process integration (PI) engineer in the Technology and Development (TD) department of GlobalFoundries Singapore. She received her PhD in 2019 from the National University of Singapore, Department of Material Science and Engineering. Her research interest is high perpendicular magnetocrystalline anisotropic (PMA) material for spintronic devices. Her work is the first to realise SOT switching in a single-layer, metallic PMA material.

Dr Zhao Ming, Assistant Professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Dr Zhao Ming joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in March 2023. Before joining NUS, he was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Cornell University, USA. Dr Zhao received his PhD in Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2019. His research focuses on bridging the knowledge and technical gaps in making new catalysts toward sustainability-related applications, including novel nanomaterials fabrication, chemical imaging analysis, and operando platform development. Over his research years, Dr Zhao has published more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in top journals and received some prestigious awards, including the NRE Young Star Researcher Award and the Sigma Xi Best Doctoral Dissertation.

Ms Nur Rahayu Binte Thaifoddin, Senior Executive, Department of Architecture
Ms Nur Rahayu Binte Thaifoddin joined the Department of Architecture (DOA), bringing along her extensive work experience as Senior Executive, Office of Human Resources since 2019 and as Executive (HR and Programme Administration) at SDE Deanā€™s Office since 2014. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) (Edith Cowan University) and obtained a Diploma in Information Communications Technology (Singapore Polytechnic). Her versatile expertise in many areas of admin work will be applied to contributing to DOAā€™s academic and teaching projects, events, initiatives and other areas of development.

Ms Tania Seow Tianya, Senior Executive, Department of Civil and Environmental EngineeringĀ 
Ms Tania will be assisting the department in its digital marketing initiatives and enhancement of online presence besides supporting department events and outreach.

Ms Ko Chen, Associate Director, Deanā€™s Office (CDE)Ā 
Ms Ko Chen joined us from Organisational Excellence Transformation Unit (OETU), NUS Agility Office, where she was involved in change management and process review for various projects. Leveraging on her involvement in the research business partnering and shared service project at OETU, she will work closely with the Vice Dean of Research, Associate ProfessorĀ  Benjamin Tee to spearhead new administrative initiatives to support and grow the impact of our comprehensive research portfolio. Prior to her one-year secondment to OETU, she was the administrative lead of the Institute of Real Estate and Urban Studies, where she assisted the Director in managing the Instituteā€™s overall administrative operations for the past 15 years.

Miss Maryam Binte Abdul Khir, Management Assistant Officer, Deanā€™s Office (Office of Graduate Programmes)
Ms Maryam Binte Abdul Khir joined the Office of Graduate Programmes as Management Assistant Officer on 1 March 2023. With four years of administrative experience in NUS, she will support the Graduate Coursework Mastersā€™ Programmes in the Office of Graduate Programmes. She will support admission and student matters with the other team members.

Ms So Tsz Ying Eileen, Assistant Senior Manager, Deanā€™s Office (NUS Cities)
Ms Eileen So joined the Deanā€™s Office (NUS Cities) as an Assistant Senior Manager. She obtained her Bachelorā€™s degree in Business Administration from NUS. Eileen brings 13 years of valuable experience in corporate administration, faculty affairs and conference management from various organisational set-ups, including institutes of higher learning, public healthcare institutions and non-profit academic society. In her previous role, she led an administrative team at the Office of Academic & Faculty Affairs, National Institute of Education. An ardent foodie, she enjoys cafe hopping and has a soft spot for Thai food. She also enjoys travelling and spending time with her loved ones on weekends. She assumes her role as an administrative manager at NUS Cities, overseeing the unitā€™s operations, including administrative, finance and academic matters.Ā 

Staff Retirement

Mr Ang Beng Oon, Laboratory Technologist, Civil and Environmental Engineering, had his last day of service on 14 March 2023. We thank him for his contributions and wish him all the best.

Management Update

Professor Praveen Linga, stepped down as Vice-Dean (Industry, Innovation & Enterprise) wef 1 March 2023.Ā 

Associate Prof Daniel Chua, Vice-Dean (Development) will step down wef 1 April 2023.Ā
