FACULTY AWARDS & RECOGNITION

Congratulations to the following faculty for being awarded Honorary Fellowships with effect from 1 July 2023
• Associate Professor Chor Eng Fong, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
• Adjunct Associate Professor Quan Chenggen, Department of Mechanical Engineering

Associate Professor Yan Ning has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of Molecular Catalysis (Elsevier). Molecular Catalysis is a well-respected journal covering homogeneous, heterogeneous, enzymatic, and other catalysis sub-areas. Initially started in 1974, it has served the broad catalysis community for almost 50 years.

Professor Yong Kwet Yew was appointed by the Minister of Sustainability and Environment, Ms Grace Fu, as a Board Member of the Public Utilities Board (PUB) – the National Water Agency for the term from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2025.

Professor Quek Ser Tong was appointed by the Public Utilities Board (PUB) as an Executive Committee Member of the Coastal Protection and Flood Management Research Programme (CFRP) for 3 years from Q1 2023 to Q1 2026.

Professor Ong Say Leong was conferred the title of Honorary Professor of Xi’an Jiaotong University on 1 June 2023.

Assistant Professor Li Yuzhu Pearl was awarded Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers through direct nomination by the Henriette Herz Scout and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. She will collaborate with German Research Institutes in the Coastal and Ocean Engineering field in the next three years. Date of award: June 14, 2023

A paper led by Dr Jin Yueming, an Assistant Professor holding joint appointment with the department, was awarded 1st prize of the Best Paper Award of IJCARS-MICCAI 2021 Special Issue. MICCAI is the best conference about medical image computing, and IJCARS is the best conference about computer assisted surgery. The winning project entitled “Trans-SVNet: Hybrid Embedding Aggregation Transformer for Surgical Workflow Analysis” is an AI system which can accurately recognise and anticipate the surgical phase, which is important and fundamental to provide cognitive assistance to surgeons to enhance surgical safety.

Associate Professor Annapoornima M Subramanian and Master of Engineering student Jonathan Deloule received the best paper award at the IEEE, International Conference on Engineering, Technology, and Innovation (ICE 2023) for work presented on “Effectiveness of AI for Drug Discovery".
