Inspiring stories on CDE Giving: Khor Kai Zhao

kai-zhao-v02

Meet Khor Kai Zhao, a Year 4 student majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a specialisation in Aeronautical Engineering.

Kai Zhao's strong passion for Physics and the mechanics of flight has guided his path towards Aeronautical Engineering at CDE. Despite facing financial challenges, Kai Zhao seized opportunities such as participating in an exchange programme in Hong Kong and completing internships with the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and Home Team Science & Technology Agency (HTX), enriching his educational experience.

The MSV Asia Bursary's support allowed Kai Zhao to pursue his academic goals without the burden of financial worries. This bursary was established by MSV Systems & Service Pte Ltd (MSV), a systems and service provider for burn-in reliability testing. With a heart to support education, MSV also made a gift in 2021 to set up the MSV Asia Scholarship for CDE undergraduates.

Looking ahead to the future, Kai Zhao is driven to advance his career and make meaningful contributions to the public sector through innovative engineering solutions while giving back to society.

A gift that recognises excellence in Safety, Health and Environmental Technology

In 2021, the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department raised funds through the generous contributions of MSc SHE Alumni, family, friends, and colleagues of Associate Professor Foo Swee Cheng. Their support, which amounted to $21,230 by 22 March 2022, was instrumental in establishing an award to encourage and recognise our graduate students in the Master of Science in Safety, Health and Environmental Technology (MSc SHE) degree programme who have displayed excellence in academics.

For Semester 2 AY2023-2024, the top two graduating MSc SHE students who displayed academic excellence and outstanding achievements were awarded this prize. Congratulations to:

  • 1st place: Cheung Jun Xi Edwin ($1000 cash prize)
  • 2nd place: Joelyn Liew Ren Ai ($500 cash prize)!
