MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN!

Dear students, alumni, colleagues, and partners of CDE,
“To Inspire” is a core element of our mission statement. As a College, we strive to inspire through our actions, and our students have done much to inspire us this month!
Let’s all celebrate our Industrial Design alumni from the Class of 2024 who have made us proud by winning the James Dyson Award and achieving runner-up at the national level.
Zoey Chan won the top prize for her innovative design aimed at improving daily life for those managing diabetes, including herself. To tackle the challenges of administering daily insulin injections, Zoey created "nido," a compact organiser that allows users to hold needles of different brands and sizes, safely remove protective caps, and store used needles and other waste until they can be disposed of properly.
Reynard Seah’s Noda rethinks temporary structures. Inspired by how plant cells swell to remain strong yet flexible, Noda is a joint system made from 3D-printed loops and a silicone core, allowing displaced families to quickly assemble sturdy shelters.
These are designs that are not only highly innovative; they were developed with empathy and heart.
The CDE spirit was also on full display at the 2025 InterFaculty Games, with Team CDE triumphantly securing the overall gold medal!
Gold-winning teams from CDE were Badminton (Mixed) captained by Liu Yi Bin (Mechanical Engineering, Floorball (Male) captained by Zaheer Bin Abdul Malik (Built Environment), Table Tennis (Mixed) captained by Kevin Weston Sanjay (Mechanical Engineering), League of Legends (eSports) captained by Ng Chuan Chai Dillion (Industrial Systems Engineering and Management), and Valorant (eSports) captained by Wang Shou En Lucas (Biomedical Engineering).
We are proud of all our sportsmen and sportswomen who represented the College.
I share the sentiment expressed by one of the CDE Sports Directors, Kevin Chua Chee Suan, a Year 2 Mechanical Engineering student, when he said, “The overall title belongs not to one, but to every athlete who showed up, gave their all, and stood shoulder to shoulder for CDE.”
