Her work adopts both data science and systems engineering approaches, and she is passionate about interdisciplinary collaboration to tackle complex challenges in the engineering and management of the built environment.
Dr Rahul Prasanna Misra
Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Dr Rahul Prasanna Misra joined the Department as an Assistant Professor under the NUS Presidential Young Professorship. Dr Misra received his Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India, and his MSc and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.
At MIT, under the supervision of Professor Daniel Blankschtein, he developed multiscale frameworks to uncover how electronic polarisation effects—originating from the electric fields of polar molecules and charged species at nanomaterial–water interfaces—influence fluid thermodynamics and transport.
During his postdoctoral research, he expanded this work in collaboration with experimental researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy-funded Centre for Enhanced Nanofluidic Transport (CENT), addressing fundamental knowledge gaps in nanoscale fluid behaviour. At NUS, his vision is to harness molecular-level insights and advanced modelling to drive innovative solutions for clean water, sustainable energy, and membrane separations.
Dr Zhu Guanzhou
Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Dr Zhu Guanzhou joined the Department as an Assistant Professor under the NUS Presidential Young Professorship. Dr Zhu received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with Summa Cum Laude and departmental highest honour from the University of California, Los Angeles (2016), and his PhD in Chemistry from Stanford University (2022).
During his PhD, he worked under the supervision of Professor Hongjie Dai on rechargeable batteries, including aluminium-, magnesium-, sodium-, and lithium-ion batteries. He was also the recipient of the Bits & Watts Graduate Fellowship from the Precourt Institute for Energy, Stanford University.
After his PhD, he continued his research on batteries as a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University. In September 2023, he joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a postdoctoral associate, working with Professor Ju Li and Professor Yang Shao-Horn to continue his research on rechargeable batteries.
