Asia Regional Gold Winner of Reimagine Education Awards

A project led by Associate Professor Yen Ching-Chiuan together with the Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was named the Asia Regional Gold Winner of the QS Reimagine Education Awards (https://www.reimagine-education.com/). The awards honour pioneering pedagogical approaches that boost learning outcomes and employability, as well as effective methods of teaching sustainability, with a vision to equip over a billion learners worldwide for their future endeavours. This year’s regional awards featured innovative projects that redefine the boundaries of educational excellence and set a new standard for transformative learning experiences worldwide.

The project developed an XR (extended reality) system with immersive and interactive elements to train SCDF officers in managing Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) and Hazardous Materials (HazMat) incidents. The design, a world’s first, brings the officers through realistic training scenarios that engage their senses of sight, hearing, touch, and even smell. The system has been implemented in the Civil Defence Academy for training. It is now in phase 2 of research and development.
