Season’s greetings from the CDE Office of Student Life (OSL)! We hope you are enjoying a restful break during the NUS Vacation, and we look forward to welcoming you back in Semester 2, AY2023/2024.
Starting Semester 2 with a bang, the Office of Student Life together with CDE Club, brings you the CDE Day 2024 Carnival lined with fun-filled games and activities. We warmly invite all CDE staff and students alike to join us in celebrating the College. The festivities will be happening on 24 January 2024, from 11.00am to 5.00pm, at E4 Level 4. Register here. Triumph at the SILA Student Design Awards 2023: Celebrating innovation in landscape architecture
Kudos to the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) students for securing numerous accolades in the recent Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA) Student Design Awards 2023!
The theme 'Beyond Just Green' encapsulates the intellectual depth of the profession, stimulating innovative design solutions grounded in research and analysis. It seeks to highlight that landscape architecture extends beyond the conventional 'green' approach of designing with plants and gardens.

Shaping Urban Visionaries: Department of Architecture Students Mentor in URA Challenge's CUBE Workshop
In the 14th Edition of the Urban and Built Environment (CUBE) Workshop, an annual competition held by URA Challenge in November, 18 students from the Department of Architecture once again participated as facilitators. The competition cum workshop, designed for pre-university students from institutions such as ITE, JCs, and Polytechnics, saw more than 140 students participating this year, developing an impressive masterplan proposal for the former Jurong Bird Park site over a period of five days from 20th to 24th November 2023.

MindPeek in Hong Kong!
Mind Peek, a student project incubated under the Innovation and Design Programme, in collaboration with the Singapore Art Museum (SAM), was presented at Researching the Future - Art-Tech exhibition and symposium alongside leading artists and academics from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Tokyo, Peking University, Macao Polytechnic University and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST).
Mind Peek uses AI to detect human facial features and transform human emotions into colourful orbs. It provides a medium for the audience to reflect on their well-being and connect with others. The project is a follow-up from the Museum Alive interdisciplinary joint studio offered by the Department of Architecture, Division of Industrial Design and the Engineering Design and Innovation Centre.
The Mind Peek student team comprised Jay Ng Yu Zhe, Janessa Song, Lucas Tay, Joanne Joseph and Srikesh Sundaresan.
The project was supervised by Associate Professor Khoo Eng Tat along with SAM curatorial team Lim Hong Chye, Andrea Fam, Nicole Tan and Maria Tang.

DiD student wins Japan Institute of Design Promotion Special Award
Jared Lim, a current Year 3 undergraduate from Industrial Design, and his project 'OneTwo' has clinched the Japan Institute of Design Promotion Special Award! The award was presented to Jared, along with the other winners, at the 2023 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) Award Ceremony on 1 December 2023. Winners of this special award are selected by jurors delegated by the various international design associations that meet their evaluation criteria among the shortlisted entries for TISDC.
OneTwo is a low-tech running instrument that embodies itself like a "metronome" in our body. With rhythm and tempo, it builds up consistency in running, fine tuning a runner's movements whenever needed and developing one's growth with self-compassion.
